Goals and Milestones

At IFP, we are always striving to serve our community better.

Goals

Give our guests the same healthy and nutritious foods middle-class Americans should serve to their families to live a healthy life.

At each visit, guests receive a minimum of two protein items totaling 15 grams per visit.

Alleviate hunger for families living in Milwaukee's food deserts.

Provide all households with three to five well-balanced meals at each visit.

Every guest receives a minimum of six servings of fresh fruits and vegetables at each visit.

We will provide dignity to our guests by giving over 1,000 Thanksgiving dinners, a choice of turkey or ham, the trimmings for the meal, and 20 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Milestones

  • In 2017, the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP) started; the FFVP is our cornerstone program, which involves purchasing quality, culturally specific, and commonly consumed fresh fruits and vegetables from local wholesale produce companies. In 2023, the FFVP purchased $137,000 of fresh produce due to the lack of donations of fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • In 2018, the IFP went from a neighborhood food pantry to a city-wide pantry to meet the needs of the underserved populations of Milwaukee: people of low-income living in the food deserts of Milwaukee, nearly 70% of guests served are Black, and 48% are children.

  • Our proactive response to the pandemic. In 2020, due to the pandemic, the IFP grew exponentially from 13,934 guests in 2019 to 34,848 guests. With help from our community, we were able to provide the same healthy foods our guests were accustomed to receive from our pantry.

  • The majority of our guests are children (48%), followed by adults (39%) and seniors (13%).

  • In 2020, to address the racial inequities of food distribution in Milwaukee, IFP opened two satellite pantries. Our primary site is in downtown Milwaukee, located on the cusps of Milwaukee’s food deserts. Our two satellite food pantries are in the most underserved and economically depressed zip codes in Milwaukee, 53206 and 53233.

  • In 2022, the IFP held its first annual Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway, serving 1,009 households between its three locations: a turkey or ham, the traditional trimmings, and twenty pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • A primary outcome achieved by the IFP is inextricably tied to the compassion underlying our mission. Compassion is manifested most evidently in the Loving-kindness of our staff and volunteers and through the quality, culturally specific foods, especially our fruits and vegetables.
