French Teacher and Director for Community Engagement at the University School of Milwaukee, Renee Weber, brought in a group of students last week to volunteer at Interchange Food Pantry.
“We had invited Geroge (pantry director) to the school to speak to the students about hunger in Milwaukee, and we wanted to return the favor by coming in to volunteer!” Renee responded when asked why she and the students had chosen to volunteer at IFP.
From sorting and preparing food before the pantry opened to registering guests, writing shopping tickets, and helping guests to their cars with groceries. Renee and the students helped run the entire pantry.
“Seeing the smile on the guests’ faces!” Renee replied enthusiastically when asked what her favorite part of the morning had been.
“Absolutely, we would come back and encourage others to volunteer here too! It was very easy to communicate with the staff and set up volunteering around the students’ schedules, and we were actively helping the whole time we were here!”
Thank you so much to Renee and all the students for lending a hand and being such enthusiastic volunteers! We are always looking for groups or individuals to sign up for open volunteer shifts.
