The IFP’s main goal is to obtain the healthiest food available for our pantry guests. How? Fifty percent of our guest’s food choices are fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits! The balance of food falls in the food guidelines by the USDA (grains, protein, and dairy).
A typical day at the pantry our guests receive:
Vegetables (broccoli, carrots, peas, cauliflower, zucchini, green beans, potatoes and tomatoes (ten to twelve items)
Fruits such as apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, strawberries, and blueberries (five to seven items)
Dairy products: milk, cheese, yogurt, and protein shakes (four to five items)
Protein Items: chicken, beef, pork, peanut butter (four to five items)
Grains: rice, pasta, cereal, health bars and bread (three to four items)
